Broken conductor Detection in closed Ring Distribution system Networks and Microgrids

چکیده :

Broken conductor faults in power distribution systems can cause many issues such as fire hazards, risks to human and animal lives and damage to electrical equipment. Since these faults produce small to no-fault currents, many of them can not be detected by convensional protection systems, and therefore remain in the power system for relatively long time. In this paper a method to detect broken conductor faults in microgrids and distribution systems with closed ring topology is proposed. The proposed fault detection algorithm can be implemented in closed ring- single-source and multi-source distribution systems. Simulation results indicate that this method can identify broken conductor faults and separate them from normal operating conditions such as load switching events.
